Brickworks was a temporary art installation at the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA. This installation was created with donated materials and one evening of volunteer labor, and was in place for one week in May, 1994. Brick is a traditional material commonly used in local buildings.  Bringing them inside a modernist concrete building created a dramatic contrast.  Red bricks were drylaid on the poured concrete floor in a way that responded to the form of a lightwell in the space.  The fresh bricks made an eerie crunching noise underfoot and filled the room with a warm earthy smell.
